2018-19 Champions Week 1 Day 3 Wrap Up

Play returned for day 3 at Murray Bridge after being at Mount Barker for the entirety of Friday’s State Mixed Pairs and part of the Fours on Thursday afternoon. Players were greeted with predominantly blue skies and sunshine which was a lovely change compared to the weather that was served up on day 1 & 2.

Last 16-

Once the formalities were finished, it was straight into it for the players. There were a strong mix of tight games that went down to the wire and matches that had convincing winners. The results are as follows.

Quarter Finals-

The last games of this fine Saturday saw the Quarter Finals for both the Men’s and Women’s Pairs played before a break for the afternoon with the Semi-Finals and Final to be played tomorrow. The experienced McLaren Vale duo of Justin Kelly and Les Carter were challenged early by youngsters Tyson Wilson and Nathan Black and were unable to hold them off resulting in a 21-11 win to Black and Wilson. The West Lakes pair of Aaron Bremner and Kane Coulls were able to maintain a minor lead for the entirety of the game over Simon Geater-Johnson and Marty Moloney, in the end it was a 20-12 win to West Lakes. Geoff Munn and Craig Mills started strongly against Lobethal pair John Conte and Tony Treloar and unfortunately for the boys from the Hill they were unable to make a comeback going down 20-8. Daniel Langdon and Brad Errock from Mount Gambier put in a brilliant performance and had a convincing win in the end over Tait Rogers and Chris Jones from Eudunda (22-6). On the Women’s side of things Tiffany Kimber and Jackie Field had a 17-7 win over the Ardrossan duo of Annette Rowntree and Penny McCarthy.  Patria McGrath and Theresa Emberton held off a gallant Victor Harbour duo in Barbara Mullen and Annette Speed and ended up winning 18-13. Wallaroo duo of Di Milner and Merrilyn Brandt put in a fantastic performance to defeat Port Elliot’s Lyn Mole and Eileen Love 19-10. The final match for the afternoon saw a close game in which Karin Lynch and Leanne Tenney from Laura hold off Karen Gatto and Vicki Arbon with the final score line being 14-12.

Tomorrow we will return with the Semi Finals and Final from 9:45 am at Murray Bridge Bowling Club with the Women’s Final to be Live Streamed to the Bowls SA Facebook page!
