2024 Inter School Challenge Unveils Emerging Bowls Talent

by Marketing on June 28, 2024

Nineteen school teams competed in the newly branded Inter School Challenge at Playford Bowling Club on 27 June 2024. The challenge saw 57 high school students from across the state battle it out in a triples format.

The states emerging talent played quick fire short games of four ends with a sudden death play-off end when scores were tied. After three sectional games, the final position play offs were locked in.

The Bronze Medal match saw two regional schools of Quorn Area School and Horizon Christian School battle it out. The team of Mia Crisp / Sam Finlay / Riley Crisp (Quorn) started off with their best foot forward and remained confident to take home the bronze medal with a win of 5 shots to 3 over 6 ends against Michaela Nicholson / Jake Prior / Ashlee Gilgen (Horizon).

A nailbiter of a Gold Medal match consisted of the teams from Modbury High School and Tatachilla Lutheran College verse each other. Winning the first three ends was Dylan Amodeo / Harrison Norton / Cameron Jamison (Modbury). A change in momentum saw Caleb Whitten / Prosper Kavhira / James Fox (Tatachilla) win the final three ends, forcing a tie breaker. In a thrilling end Tatachilla Lutheran College claimed the title with a 6 shots to 4 win.

Excitingly, the Inter School Challenge was a trial opportunity for the School Sport SA Team.

School Sport SA has partnered with Bowls SA and together will enter a South Australian State School Team in the National School’s Bowls Championship, this year to be held at the City of Geelong Bowling Club. Ten bowlers from South Australia will be selected to travel interstate to compete from Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 September.

Bowls SA would like to thank the Playford Bowling club and their volunteers for hosting the event. A heart felt appreciation is also sent to the clubs who assisted in coaching and facilitating school sessions to develop our junior talent within South Australia.
