Vale Lyn Prosso
A long-standing Standing State representative and South Australian bowls member
Bowls SA expresses their condolences to Lyn’s family, the State team community and the members of the Marion Bowling Club on the passing of Lyn Prosso.
Lyn started playing Night Owls around 1990 with her son Clint and father Norm at Clarence Gardens. She was quickly hooked on the game and in her first season of pennant bowls in 1991/92 she won the B grade singles. She then went on to win the Club singles at Clarence Gardens in 1994/5 and 1995/6.
After five years at Clarence Gardens, she transferred to the Holdfast Bay Women’s Bowling Club. At that time Holdfast Bay was home to a number of SA and Australian players. In her first season at Holdfast Bay in 1996/97 she won the Club Pairs with Joan Moran. In her 2nd season at Holdfast Lyn won the prestigious Metropolitan singles and was subsequently added to the South Australian squad.
Lyn made her debut for South Australia in 1998 in a test series against NSW. She represented South Australia regularly up until the end of the 2003/04 season when she retired from the State team. She had a break from bowls between 2006 -2008 due to work commitments, however, she returned to bowls in 2008/9 and the South Australian team from 2009 until 2014. She played a total of 76 games for South Australia.
In 2002 Lyn moved to Marion and became the first woman to represent Marion in the Saturday Premier League competition in 2012/03. She went on to play over 100 games for Marion in the Saturday Premier League side.
At Marion Lyn won the Club singles 7 times, the pairs 6 and the mixed pairs 7 times.
Lyn also had great success in a number of State and Masters events. She was a member of a winning Holdfast Bay rink in the State 4s in 1999/2000. In 2005/06 she won the State triples with her good friends Helma Negerman and Pam Schapel. Then again in 2011/12 with Renata Callisto and Jackie Gardiner. She won the Champ of Champ singles in 2012/13 and the Champ of Champ pairs in 2014/15 with Chris Thulborn. She won the State Fours in 2018/19 with Di Green, Patria McGrath and Chris Thulborn and the State Pairs with Chris Thulborn in 2018/19.
Lyn was also a great contributor to the club, volunteering in the kitchen, helping behind the bar or doing other tasks around the Club.
Her contribution to the sport of Bowls in South Australia is commendable and she will be greatly missed.
