2023-24 Women’s Country Carnival Champions Crowned
All who ventured out to Marion Bowls Club enjoyed clear blue skies today as the 2023-24 Women’s Country Carnival wrapped up with semifinals and finals. A sizeable crowd gathered right from the beginning of the matches, which began at 9:30 am. As the day progressed, more spectators arrived, building up a vibrant and exciting atmosphere.
Fours
In a dominant display, the fours team comprising R Franks (Mallala/ R8), M Pisano (Mallala / R8), K Day (Clare / R8), and Y Kelly (Mallala / R8) outclassed the Wallaroo/ Etsa team led by B Griffin, E Griffin, K Frick, and J Symons with a score of 18 shots to 8, to earn the title of Women’s Country Carnival fours champions.
Singles
Victor Harbor’s Rachel Wolfenden started the singles final with the first nine ends unanswered before she fought off a spirited comeback by Edithburgh RSL’s Janet Tucker to take out the singles crown 21 shots to 10.
Pairs
After two extremely tight semi finals the Kingscote Region 7 partnership of M Barrett and J Bell were comfortable throughout their final to take the match from R Janz (WIRRABARA/ R3) / H Smith (Whyalla/ R3) 18 shots to 7, to be crowned the Women’s Country Carnival pairs champions for 2023-24.
