Karaoke event a success
The West Croydon and Kilkenny RSL Bowling Club found a way to pass the time last weekend without bowls by hosting a karaoke night.
The event was held last Friday night, while they also held an evening with live music on Saturday night.
Club secretary Nina Kociuba said the karaoke night went “really well”.
“We generally have karaoke once a month, with this one being the last one for the year, then we will have another one in February,” she said.
“We generally have it on the last Friday of the month and the last song is usually sung at about 11:30pm.”
Nina believes the karaoke format is a good fit considering the current restrictions in place.
“Because it is karaoke, and you aren’t allowed to dance, people tend to enjoy sitting down and listening to those people getting up and singing,” she said.
“It is always a good night.
“We have had some nights with bands where people just want to get up and dance, but with karaoke everyone just sits and listens.”
Nina said nights like karaoke are an important outlet for people amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“With COVID, people look forward to stuff like the karaoke nights, because they can get out and about,” she said.
“With Karaoke there is a wide range of ages, from the very young, to the very old that get up and sing.
“It was just a great night had by all.”
Nina encouraged other clubs to consider looking outside of the box to host other events as another source of revenue.
