Ceduna Bowls’ Australia Day Event

by BowlsSA3 on January 27, 2021

Ceduna held its third Australia Day comp this year. The maximum 42 players took part in a two-bowl triples format, scoring by the consistency method.

The emphasis is on involving all levels of players from Pennants, Night bowlers and Social players. Teams are not nominated but drawn to ensure that all are as equal as possible. There is, however, some serious aspect, as $1000 sponsorship money is up for grabs.

We celebrate living in such a wonderful country. Iconic Oz music floods the rink all day. There are lamingtons and party pies in the afternoon break, followed by a barbecue tea.

In what was described as “an event with everything but a merry-go-round”, first came the national anthem, followed by a ”spider” and included live entertainment by Bernie Scott, a prize for bowl of the day and raffles for the meat trays which were part of the jumbuck that was donated. Those who dressed up a bit, or a lot, added colour to the day

When players were asked whether the event should run again next year, there was resounding approval.
