2021 Prestige Medley Day Two Results

by BowlsSA6 on April 11, 2021

The 2021 Prestige Medley is now in the books and we saw some thrilling encounters at the beautiful Riverland venues. All minor rounds of play were completed, with a final played between the winners of each section of the respective events. The Men’s trophy will be heading down the Sturt Highway back to Adelaide with Metro West taking the title, whilst the Ladies’ trophy will be heading down the Sturt Highway, before a right hand turn will take it down the Augusta Highway towards the Eyre Peninsula.

In the Women’s event being played entirely at The Lawns Renmark Club, the results couldn’t have been much closer if we tried – with 6 sides still in a position to win through to the final. In section 1, Region 4 – North Eastern, won their first four matches to sit at 4 wins with 40 points heading into the final round. Second place Metro East had 3 wins and 34 points to set up a tantalising finish with North Eastern facing Metro East in the final sectional match to decide the winner of Section 1. A big win by Metro East, picking up 12 points saw them come home strongly with the wind to take out section 1 and book their spot in the final, with North Eastern finishing second in the section and equal third overall. In Section 2, heading into the final round, Metro North were leading the way with 3 wins and 33 points, with Eyre Peninsula (3 wins 32 points), Upper North (2 wins, 28 points) and Metro West (3 wins, 27 points) still in the hunt for a spot in the final. Eastern came through with their first win of the weekend to upset Metro North and spoil their plans of playing the in the final, but they’d done enough to secure second place in the section and equal third overall. A win by Metro West over Upper North wasn’t enough to leapfrog Metro North into equal third overall, whilst a big win by Eyre Peninsula over Yorke Peninsula in the final round was enough to see them book their place in the final against Metro East.

This set up a big game for the final, which finished as quite the spectacle under lights at Lawns Renmark. In the final Eyre Peninsula won in the Pairs 13-6, Eyre Peninsula won in the Triples 18-15 and Metro East won in the Fours 15-8. This gave Eyre Peninsula the overall win 39-36 to see Eyre Peninsula pick up their first crown since 2013/14 by just 3 shots overall.

On the men’s side of things we had a section played at Loxton and Loxton RSL respectively with the teams swapping venues from yesterday before the final was played at Loxton RSL.

In Section 1, Metro West dominated all weekend to pass through their section undefeated picking up 52 of a maximum 60 points. Yorke Peninsula had a great weekend to finish with 3 wins & 38 points to clinch second spot and equal third overall.

In Section 2, the story was much the same with Metro East dominating all weekend to go undefeated in their section picking up 53 points out of a maximum of 60 points, whilst North Eastern finished with 2 wins & 36 points to take out second in the section and equal third overall.

This left Metro West to play Metro East in the final for the Men’s Crown. In this match up Metro West won in the Pairs 18-8, Metro West won in the Triples 20-16 and Metro East won in the Fours 18-13. This gave Metro West the win overall 51-42 to go back-to-back in the Prestige Medley.
