2019 Under 18 SA v VIC series – Day one results

by BowlsSA3

Day One of the 2019 SA v VIC series has been completed at the City of Geelong Bowling Club in Victoria. After the Victorians claimed both the girls and boys shields on SA soil last year, our teams were keen to make an early impression to win the silverware back for SA.

With a variety of experienced, returning and players on debut all teams put a positive foot forward on day one, playing some great shots when necessary and taking the game right up to the Victorians.

Upon completion of the first session both the boys and girls had split the rinks at 1-1 with the Victorians holding a slightly better shot margin in both series. Our SA team came out strongly to try and sweep the rinks in the afternoon and ensure they got on the board in the best out of three test series, however fell agonizingly short in a couple of the disciplines which would see the Victorians lead 1-0 in both the boys and girls.

There was plenty of upside for our SA team moving forward as they have now had a chance to adapt to the undercover greens and consistent Geelong breeze. Shining lights for the day included Jackson Saunders playing in a winning rinks on his debut and Kate Argent-Bowden defeating Australian Gold medalist Kira Bourke in the Girls Singles.
