Night Owls a social outing for mates
The opportunity to catch up socially outside of work hours saw a group of mates take up Night Owls at a local bowling club recently.
Nick and his friends, who play under the team name of The Boars, finished second at the Night Owls State Finals and told Bowls SA how they began playing the great game.
“I worked weekends, so catching up with my mates was always tricky,” Nick said.
“We decided that a midweek catch-up on a Wednesday night sounded like an appropriate option and lawn bowls seemed like a pretty reasonable way to catch up.
“We are just of mates who went to school together and live in the area and thought Night Owls was a pretty good way to do it.”
Nick said he and his mates enjoy the chance to continue to improve their skills each time they hit the green.
“The game itself is a game of discipline and a game of technique, so it is something you can work on,” he said.
“You don’t have to be the most gifted athlete necessarily, it is something people can pick up quite easily.
“Whether you play at a high standard or you play socially, it is a very accessible and easy game to play with your mates.”
Nick emphasised how enjoyable social bowls can be and he encouraged others to give it a go.
“We would very much encourage everyone to try Night Owls at their local club,” he said. “We have got a system now and we know what our best four is in terms of who plays each position, but you can rotate through all the positions.”
