Stars Emerge at the 2024-25 MGA Women’s Country Carnival
The 2024-25 MGA Women’s Country Carnival wrapped up in thrilling fashion at Marion Bowling Club on Monday, 14 April, following a week of top-tier competition held across multiple bowling clubs throughout Adelaide from 7–13 April.
The event brought together some of South Australia’s finest country bowlers in a celebration of sportsmanship, skill, and community spirit. After a week of fiercely contested sectional play, champions were crowned in Singles, Pairs, and Fours on a thrilling finals day.
Singles Title
Kate Blacksell of Nuriootpa Bowling Club claimed the Singles title in a nail-biting final against Sharon Cavanagh (Moonta Bowling Club), winning 21 shots to 19. Blacksell’s consistency and composure under pressure proved the difference in a tight contest that had spectators on the edge of their seats.

Pairs Title
The Pairs competition saw a dominant display from Cathryn Greenslade (Riverton Bowling Club) and Jodi Kotz (Keith Bowling Club), who overpowered the Moonta-Goolwa team of Gayle Steinwedel and Renata Callisto with a commanding 21–5 victory.

Fours Title
In the Fours, it was a powerhouse team of Kate Blacksell (Nuriootpa), Karin Lynch (Laura), Cath Greenslade (Riverton), and Jodi Kotz (Keith) that emerged victorious. They held off a determined challenge from Yvonne Hollis (Berri), Julie John (Monash), and Waikerie duo Jenny Johns and Judy Strauss to win 17-16 in another incredibly close match.
