Bowls SA and Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation join forces

by Marketing on December 1, 2020

Bowls SA would like to officially announce its new partnership with the South Australian based Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation.

With mental illness a pressing issue in society, Bowls SA has joined forces with the team at the Breakthrough to help bring awareness to the importance of looking after your mental health within the bowls community and wider society.

The partnership will include a Breakthrough Community Round for bowls across the state early next year, to help raise awareness and funds for mental health.

The concept has previously been used within winter sports in the community, including football and netball, with great success.

Bowls SA CEO Mark Easton said mental health awareness is a priority and he is looking forward to collaborating with Breakthrough.

“We are pleased to be working with the great team at the Breakthrough to highlight the importance of looking after your mental health,” he said.

“2020 has been a chaotic year, with the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions dictating a large part of our lives, so Bowls SA wants to emphasise the importance to our members and the wider community of prioritising their mental health.

“Breakthrough do great work and we are excited to see what we can achieve in partnership with them.”

Breakthrough Executive Director John Mannion said mental illness is going to be the biggest health challenge in our lifetime.

“Mental illness consumes lives. It ruins lives. It takes lives,” he said.

“Bowling Clubs provide a sense of purpose and a sense of belonging which are fundamental in supporting positive mental health and wellbeing.

“Sporting clubs have such a huge impact in their communities by being trusted voices and an ideal vehicle to drive the message about mental health awareness.”

More information will follow regarding specific details of the partnership and the programs that will be put in place.
