Women’s Country Carnival returns

After last year’s event was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the MGA Women’s Country Carnival is back and will be held across Metropolitan Adelaide later this month.

The carnival kicks off on Monday, March 22, and will run through until Sunday, March 28, with numbers for the fours, singles and pairs on par with previous years.

Nearly 200 players will take part in the pairs competition, while just under 100 will compete in the fours and singles.

Ascot Park, Brighton, Clearview, Grange, Happy Valley, Holdfast Bay, Marion, Modbury, Morphett Vale, Payneham, Prospect Broadview, Rosewater, Salisbury, Semaphore, Somerton and Toorak-Burnside will all host matches during the week.

Bowls SA operations Manager Matthew Northcott said he is glad to see this year’s event going ahead.

“Obviously last year with COVID we couldn’t do anything, so it is great to have an event like the MGA Women’s Country Carnival back up and running,” he said.

“Entry numbers are healthy and we are looking forward to what should be a great week of bowls.

“A big thank you to David Millington and MGA for their ongoing support of both our men’s and women’s country carnival events.”

MGA Insurance Senior Insurance Broker David Millington said he was proud to support the carnival.

“MGA is proud to continue its long and healthy relationship with Bowls SA and the Women’s Country Carnival,” he said.

“The entire carnival is always associated with a high level of sportsmanship and wonderful comradery.

“The fact that Bowls SA have always run a highly professional event, has always sat well with MGA, as there is mutual satisfaction for both MGA as the sponsor and Bowls SA as the organiser.

“Hence, it is our pleasure to be involved once again.”
