Wilmington Wins Small Club of the Year
The Wilmington Bowling Club was crowned Small Club of the Year at the recent 2023 – 2024 Bowls SA Awards Night.
Recently rejuvenated with new synthetic greens, banks, paving, seating, watering systems and kitchen amenities through fundraising, Wilmington prides itself on co-operation, team spirit and camaraderie amongst members.
Through the club’s strong volunteer-based leadership and drive, and with a multi-faceted service delivery they continue to attract high numbers of adults and children to pennant matches, tournaments, social bowls, meals and events.
Club president Trevor Bornholm said it meant a lot to his club to claim the award.
“Our average age is over 70 and a lot of work and volunteer hours go into running the club,” he said.
“We have really pushed hard with our fundraising and encouraging new people to come into the club.
“Whether it is juniors or people who have never been associated with bowls, we try to get them in the door.
“It is a really great achievement for our members to win this award.”
