Voigt Goes Back-to-Back
Angaston Bowling Club’s Jono Voigt was named Men’s Country Carnival Player of the Year at the recent 2023 – 2024 Bowls SA Awards Night.
Voigt had a standout campaign at this season’s event, winning the singles and pairs titles to be crowned player of the year.
Voigt said it was “absolutely incredible” to win the award.
“To have a chance of back-to-back was something I never dreamed of,” he said
“To win the award even once was just incredible.”
Voigt said there was something special about the Country Carnival concept.
“It is all the mates and the people you meet,” he said.
“You get to catch up with a lot of country boys and it is something different as an opportunity you don’t get too often.
“It is a pleasure and a blessing to have an event where we can all get together and create new friendships.”
Voigt was full of praise for the standard of play and sportsmanship during the annual event.
“Once you get towards the pointy end of the tournament the standard goes through the roof,” he said.
“The blokes you play against are absolute gentlemen as well.
“Just like you would expect in a state event there is great camaraderie and support the whole way through.”
