Two Wells Bowling Club Celebrates a Historic Win by the Bain Family
In an exhilarating and historic moment at the Two Wells Bowling Club, Michelle Bain and her son, Brenton Bain, etched their names into the club’s history as the first mother-son duo to win the prestigious Singles Championships in the same season. Their remarkable victory has not only brought immense pride to their family but also inspired the entire local bowling community.
Reflecting on the monumental achievement, Michelle described the unforgettable day: “We were ecstatic. I finished my game just before my son’s had finished, so I got to see him win his on the very last bowl. It was a real thrilling game.”
Brenton, returning to Two Wells after years of playing in higher-level divisions, admitted feeling the weight of expectations. “I kinda felt I was expected to win, coming from playing Premier League. But winning alongside Mum made it special, especially with Dad, Mark, winning the pairs too with Paul Candlish. It was an all-family affair.”
The Bain family’s deep-rooted passion for lawn bowls has shaped their lives since 1998 when they first joined as a family at Elizabeth Bowling Club. “Bowling is a family lifestyle for us. We love it,” Michelle shared. Their collective dedication has resulted in numerous championships over the years, making this season’s dual victory even sweeter.
The road to victory wasn’t without its challenges. Both Michelle and Brenton faced intense semi-final matches, winning by just a single shot to advance. “That semi-final should have been the final — it was that good,” Michelle recalled.
The community at Two Wells embraced the historic win with overwhelming support. “The greenkeeper said we made history. They were proud of us,” Michelle said. “It’s lovely to have the community behind us.”
Despite their success, the Bains remain grounded and focused on inspiring others. Michelle encourages families to get involved in sports together: “It’s much better when you’ve got more family involved. Bowling as a family is one of the best things we’ve ever done.”
As for what’s next, Michelle is determined to continue competing and mentoring others. “I’ll keep bowling and see if I can win another title next season,” she said enthusiastically. Brenton, meanwhile, is balancing work commitments but remains proud of his contribution to the club.
Their inspiring journey serves as a testament to the power of family, passion, and perseverance. The Bains have proven that history is made not just by individual victories but by the bonds that keep us connected through shared dreams and triumphs.
