TIM TAKES CHARGE AGAIN – BOWLS SA PRESIDENT
Tim Dodds has been re-elected for a first full term as Bowls SA president following this afternoon’s annual general meeting.
The AGM saw Tim, who took over the presidency from Wayne Prosser earlier this year, selected to continue in the role.
Tim said it was “a great honor” to be re-elected for his first full term in the role.
“I think it is a great honor to be the president of a wonderful sporting association such as Bowls SA,” he said.
“We have some terrific people that play our wonderful game and I think it is quite an honor to continue.
“The presidency came up in a roundabout way following the retirement of Wayne Prosser and I was the vice-president at the time.
“I have always considered myself an interim president and keeping the chair warm until this AGM.
“To be elected by your peers to be the president of a sporting association is a great honor.”
Tim said his experience in the presidency role in recent months has provided valuable experience ahead of the next 12 months.
“It certainly opens your eyes up to club land,” he said.
“It highlights the fact we have so many wonderful people.
“In particular with the year we have had, I think it is a credit to all of our clubs and volunteers that make it possible.
“Everyone has done it tough, but I can only talk about our sport and I think our people have done a fantastic job.”
Tim said he looks at the other states across the country at the moment when assessing the current state of the game in South Australia.
“I immediately think of Victoria and they aren’t playing bowls at the moment,” he said.
“I think we are very fortunate with the fact that because we have stuck to our COVID plans and done the right thing, there are people out playing the sport we enjoy.
“I think every sport has probably taken a bit of a hit and we just need to get through this global pandemic and reassess where and how we head in the future.”
Tim thanked the Bowls SA staff for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I would like to thank the staff for their dedication through this period,” he said.
“Led by our CEO, every one of the people in that office has done a herculean job keeping our sport going and keeping the clubs informed.
“One of the things that I said when I joined the board was that there had to be greater communication between the governing body and the clubs, and I think we have done that better than ever this year.”
Tim’s hopes for the next 12 months are simple.
“I think like everybody I am just hoping for some normality, but we don’t know what the new norm is going to be,” he said.
“I just want everyone that plays our great game to enjoy themselves and to enjoy the fellowship that the game brings.”
Other results saw Sandra Wallace and Isidoro Belluzzo re elected for a further 2 year term on the Board of Bowls SA.
