The Swan Reach bowling club in the Mid Murray River region was devastated by swelling flood waters during December and January. A picture of a tinny inside the flooded bowling club rooms went viral after the club posted it on social media.

SA Regional Bowls Manager, Brett Herbert had regular phone contact with President Wayne Fromm and Secretary Di Hartman, and commenced in person visits in mid-February, once abating flood waters finally allowed vehicle access.

At the end of March, Brett visited again to deliver almost $500 cash to the club, collected from donation tins and the sale of shirts donated by Bowls Australia.

The club had received a lot of support from business and bowling clubs across the region. The nearby Cadell Training Centre supplied labour to repaint the club inside and out with paint supplied by Wattyl and Waikerie Hardware.

The main concern is the state of the green which needs major work to repair the surface and surrounds. This has been quoted and will cost the club around $30-$40K. The club, along with Brett’s support will continue to work on government grants and flood relief funding to help fund the rebuild.
