Surprise results as Super League hits the road
The SA Super League hit the road for round four action last Friday night, with some surprise results coming from the four respective venues.
The Mallee Pirates pulled off the upset of the season, defeating the ladder leading Northern Knights at Modbury.
A 15-shot victory by Simon Dorr, of the Pirates, over Will McPharlin, of the Knights, laid the platform for the Pirates, while Jeff Davis and Gary Meekcoms also scored a three-shot win over Luke Pietersma and Nathan Pedersen in the pairs.
Kane Coulls, Todd Brand and Jack Trenorden were able to salvage some points for the previously undefeated Knights, as they scored a 12-shot win over John Nicolai, Ross McConnell and Jackson Saunders in the triples.
The Knights won the reserves clash, while the Pirates’ under 21s continued their strong form with a one-shot win.
The much-anticipated match of the round saw the Western Rogues defeat the Central Chargers at Holdfast Bay.
Simon Geater-Johnson got the Rogues off to a dream start with a 14-shot win over Mark Haines in the singles, before Gary Thompson, Ben Bowman and Bradley Pech hit back for the Chargers with a six-shot win over Josh Studham, Max Kleinig and Jayden Zeller in the triples.
Ashley Klose and Carl Schapel were able to seal overall victory for the Rogues with a 15-shot win over Craig Mills and Geoff Munn in the pairs.
The Rogues also claimed victory in the reserves and under 21s matches.
The Eastern Raiders jumped to equal first on the ladder with a win over the Heysen Comets at Payneham.
The Raiders’ triples rink of Chris Flavel, Don Bennett and Kathy Miller led the way for their side with a 10-shot win over the Comets’ trio of James Gregory, Tim Hicks and Damon Edmunds.
Mitch Percy and Jeff Krebbekx, of the Raiders, defeated Josh Chopin and Cassandra Harvey, of the Comets, by eight shots, while Tony Treloar also scored an eight-shot win in the singles for the Raiders against Stuart Forbes.
The Raiders also won the reserves and under 21s matches.
The Southern Blazers moved to within three points of the top four after defeating the South Eastern Spartans at Ascot Park.
The singles match saw Ash Halls, of the Blazers, overcome an early deficit to defeat Kevin Stock, of the Spartans, by 18 shots, while Marc Evans, Les Carter and Dylan Lewis also scored an 11-shot win over Tony Lucas, Tony Devlin and Aaron Bremner.
Tyson Wilson and Nathan Black were able to salvage some points for the Spartans as they scored a 12-shot win over Sam Dietrich and Sam Denton in the pairs.
Despite the loss to their league side, the Spartans were able to win the reserves and under 21s.
The Super League will continue on the road once again this Friday night for round five action.
The Northern Knights will tackle the Eastern Raiders at Salisbury this Friday night in the round five Match of the Round, while the Central Chargers and the Southern Blazers will do battle at West Lakes.
The Heysen Comets will host the Mallee Pirates at Adelaide, while the South Eastern Spartans will face the Western Rogues at Marion.
