This Sunday the 8th of September wear Odd Socks in support of the GROW FOUNDATION.

Star Wars characters will be battling it out off the green. Bring the kids, grandkids and friends to utilise the opportunity and take a photo with your favourite characters.

Grow will be hosting an official opening for the final rounds of the SA Super League 2019 season so be sure to get down to Salisbury from 9:45am to enjoy the Grow Foundations welcome.

It’s Odd Socks Day – because anyone can have an odd day

At least 50% of the Australian population will experience a mental health crisis at some time in their life, for one fifth of us it will be this year. This means no Australian is untouched by some form of mental ill-health or illness.

To remind us all that we can have an odd day at any time Grow SA is encouraging South Australian businesses, schools and community groups to put on their odd socks.

Odd Socks Day is an annual event officially held on the first Friday in October, although groups, individuals and workplaces participate throughout the month, to challenge the myths around mental illness. This is a fun and engaging way we can raise awareness around mental health.

Grow’s Patron in SA, The Hon. Vickie Chapman MP, Deputy Premier of South Australia, Attorney General will officially launch the National Odd Socks Day Campaign at Salisbury Bowl Club on Sunday 8th September at 9.45am. In partnership with Bowls SA Super League and proudly supported by Mitch Dowd, the official launch will be followed by Odd Socks Rounds 6 & 7 of the SA Super League.

There will be an information table set up where spectators can find out how to get involved in helping make Odd Socks Day 2019 a success. Collection Containers for donations will be available throughout the day and there’s an opportunity to support Odd Socks Day through Mitch Dowd and receive a discount on their range of colourful Aussie socks. Enter Code GROW19 to receive 30% off any off their full priced items and Grow will receive $2 for each purchase.

With a first-class atmosphere under the dome, the Salisbury Bowling Club caters excellently for all conditions plenty of seating out of the weather or in the sunshine. There will be hot food, beverages, music, heaters, comfy seats and plenty of different things to do. It’s a community place with quality free live entertainment and some great sport action on the side.

From 11am-1pm, the 501st Legion Southern Dewback Garrison will be on a mission to build community and entertain children and adults alike. The 501st Legion is a worldwide non-profit Star Wars costuming group. The Dewback Garrison recreate the armour worn by the “bad guys” of the Star Wars saga. Spectators should keep an eye out for a  storm trooper, a bounty hunter or a Sith Lord.

Grow SA runs a range of mental health programs that allow people experiencing mental illness to live well in their community. By signing up to Odd Socks Day businesses, schools and community groups can support this vital work with a donation tin in their workplace.

Grow is also encouraging everyone to get involved on social media with the hashtag

#oddsocksday2019.

“Odd Socks Day is a nationwide initiative that raises awareness around mental health however it started here in South Australia in 2012 by a group of school students,” said Darryl Ballestrin, Manager of Grow Community Mental Health SA.

“By pulling on our odd socks for a day we are encouraging everyone to recognise that all of us have odd days and that is ok. By participating in Odd Socks Day we are having some fun while giving South Australians the opportunity to talk about mental health in a relaxed way.”

To attend the Campaign Launch and SA Super League Odd Socks Rounds, head to the Salisbury Bowling Club – The Orange Bowl, on Orange Avenue, from 9.45am Sunday September 8th.
