State Triples Champions for 2022/23
Playford Bowling Club played host to this year’s State Triples Final with 16 Men’s and 15 Women’s teams going head to head in a knockout format to just one Champion team per gender.
Not many conditions, if any, will trump last years State Triples Final, however in cold, wet and windy conditions yet again we saw some great games at Playford Bowling Club.
Our youngest competitors, Adam Black (substituting for younger brother Tyson), Brett Murdoch and Liam Coe took a whopping 27-7 win in their first round game, whilst in the Women’s competition close games throughout saw Sue Phillips, Lee Robinson and Jacky Jacobs take a narrow three-shot win.
Region Four’s team of Karantonis, Reynolds and Morena took confidence from their first round win, knocking over current state representatives Evans and Pedersen with substitute Bowman (in place of Nathan Black.) However, they ran into Ascot Park’s Sam Dietrich, Sam Denton and Mitch Percy in Round Two, ending their streak and seeing the Ascot Park team into a familiar semi-final berth.
Not to be outdone, current state representatives Gatto, Field and McGorman saw themselves bag a 36-4 win in their second round match securing them the Semi Final. However, their Australian Championship hopes were lost after going down to the in-form Phillips, Robinson and Jacobs team who secured a final spot against Annette Rowntree, Janet Tucker and Sue Hutchinson.
The Men’s semi-final saw the Modbury team of Dave Carter, Gary Thompson and Gary Meekcoms take a 21-7 win over eventual third place getters, Mammone, Hull and Halls leaving an Ascot Park versus Modbury Final.
Finishing off a strong triples campaign, Phillips, Robinson and Jacobs were crowned champions taking a 19-11 shot win over Rowntree, Tucker and Hutchinson. The Men’s competition saw Modbury’s Carter, Thompson and Meekcoms as champions in a nail biting 16-17 win over Ascot Park’s Dietrich, Denton and Percy.
