State Singles Champions for 22/23

by Marketing on April 22, 2023

Today Bowls SA Finals Week was finalised by the crowning of the Sports Centre 2022/23 Men’s and Women’s State Singles Champions.

Lockleys Bowling Club hosted this year’s women’s and men’s singles knockouts through to finals.

On Friday this week the Women’s competition began with the final 16 facing off, then continuing through to the resulting semi-finals. In the semi-finals yesterday both matches were nail biters with L Modra (Somerton) defeating R Wolfenden (Victor Harbor) and B Quinlan (Ascot Park) defeating L McGorman (Adelaide).

Except for the first day the weather really turned it on this week and today at Lockleys was a belter. The greens and venue were absolutely brilliant, a real treat for bowls.

R Wolfenden (Victor Harbor) and L McGorman (Adelaide) shook hands to be equal third.

In the women’s final Lea Modra (Somerton) was out to a six – two lead after five ends before Beth Quinlan (Ascot Park) reigned it in to be only one shot down after ten ends. This is the first time they’ve played each other, and the match then progressed neck and neck with the last six ends of the game being just one shot per end.

With her game plan of a narrow hand well in place, Lea Modra took hold of the championship with a solid finish.

Yesterday in the Mens State Singles at Lockleys Bowling Club the final 16 faced off, then continued through to the completion of the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, both matches were convincing wins, W McPharlin (Port Wakefield) defeated G Nardecchia (Lockleys) and C Mills (Grange) defeated S Geater-Johnson (Arthurton), where Nardecchia and Geater-Johnson shook hands to be equal third.

The final occurred on Saturday, where a strong W McPharlin (Port Wakefield) defeated an in-form C Mills (Grange) to be crowned the 2022/23 Sports Centre State Singles Champion.
