State Pairs Champions Crowned
The 2021/22 Men’s and Women’s State Pairs competitions came to a close today, with semi-finals and finals action at the Toorak-Burnside Bowling Club.
The men’s semi-finals saw the Grange pairing of Nathan Black and Craig Mills defeat Ian Perry (Snowtown) and (Substitute) Brian Jenkins (Toorak-Burnside) by 10 shots to progress to the final, with Jenkins a late inclusion following the withdrawal of Noel Heinrich (Snowtown).
Meanwhile, the team of John Nicolai (Port Wakefield) and Marc Evans (Grange) defeated Bob Schultz and Bill Hughes (Happy Valley) by five shots.
The final was a nail-biting affair, with Nicolai and Evans maintaining a slender lead all day, holding off a fast finishing Mills and Black to win by one-shot and clinch the title.
The women’s semi-finals saw Moonta’s Sharon Cavanagh and Claire Eichenberger defeat Laura’s Karin Lynch and Leanne Tenney by six shots.
Meanwhile, Kerry Treloar (Berri) and (Substitute) Christine Nicholls (Mount Barker), the latter a late call up after Emma Treloar (Berri) was a withdrawal due to illness, scored an eight-shot win over Sandy Wallace (Adelaide) and Pam Edmunds (Streaky Bay).
Their final was also a thrilling contest, with the match going into the final end with scores level, before Treloar and Nicholls were able to find the one shot they needed to claim victory.
