State Mixed Pairs Champions for 2022/23
Ascot Park Bowling Club hosted this year’s State Mixed Pairs Finals over two weekends with the 16 best teams fighting it out to be crowned the 2022-23 State Mixed Pairs Champions.
Played across two Sunday’s, with rain on the first day and sun on the second, the stage was set for a great finals series.
Combining together we saw our young talent in Grace Moloney (Pathways Jackaroo) and Nathan Black (Emerging Jackaroo) have comfortable wins in the round of 16 and 8. Adelaide’s pairing of Laini McGorman and Brett Davis also came into their semi final game with two convincing wins last Sunday.
With the two teams in form, it was bound to be a blockbuster semi final as the two teams come together. The highly experienced McGorman and Davis finished on top with a convincing 17-10 win.
On the other side of the draw, the semi final saw the teams of Sue Phillips and Brenton Roberts verse the pairing of Lea Modra and Garry Thompson, with Thompson finding himself in his third Semi Final in just three state events this year.
Unfortunately for Thompson, his streak was undone by Phillips and Roberts who booked themselves into the Gold Medal Match with a 23-15 win.
Rounding off the Mixed Pairs for the 2022-23 season saw Davis verse Roberts playing off to be crowned Champions. McGorman and Davis had a perfect start leading 9-0 after 3 ends. However, Phillips and Roberts brought themselves back into the game for another showstopper.
Ten years after their first Mixed Pairs Champions in 2012/13, McGorman and Davis crowned themselves 2022-23 Mixed Pairs Champions with a 19-15 win, earning their spot in the Australian Championships.
