State Multi Disability Squad – Training, Information & Classification Day

by BowlsSA2 on March 3, 2020

Did you know Lawn Bowls is one of the most inclusive sports available to people of all genders, backgrounds, intellectual and physical abilities?

Did you also know that there is a pathway for bowlers with a disability through to State, National and International competitions?

Bowls SA is assisting the existing State Multi Disability team known as the Wombats to establish their program for the upcoming season.

If you have a member, family member or friend that is a bowler with a disability – we want them! This also extends to those with a disability that may never have played bowls before but are keen to get started in a sport that provides great opportunities.

The first step is to come along to our State Disability Training, Information & Classification Day being held on Saturday April 4th at the Semaphore Bowling Club from 12pm.

The day will be inclusive of an on green training session with coaches, an information session on the program for the pathway through to State representation and beyond as well as the opportunity to be officially classified.

To be eligible to compete in a Disability Bowls event, players must first receive a classification to be eligible to enter competitions such as the Integrated Pairs, Multi-Disabilities Championships and National Championships.

The two-step process to become classified is as follows:

  1. Have your Doctor complete the Certificate of Diagnosis form (you must bring this to the classification day, when these are announced). This form can be found by clicking here
  2. A classifier will assess your physical impairment as relevant to the requirements for playing Bowls. This includes playing an end or two of bowls. (you must bring your bowls and any equipment you use to assist you during a game e.g. walking stick, wheelchair etc).
