Sports clubs getting in it to win it

Up to 1,200 South Australian sporting clubs are expected to apply for their share of a multi million-dollar cash bucket to help boost recovery efforts from the pandemic.

Sports organisations will be eligible to receive up to $3000 for equipment and programs from the State Government’s $2.495 mil Active Club Program.

Sport Minister Corey Wingard said the application process had been streamlined to allow clubs quicker access to money, with extra funds allocated for groups in need of hygiene products. “Previously this program has received a maximum of 697 applications but this year we anticipate that because of COVID that number will increase substantially,” he said. “I strongly encourage all those involved in SA sporting organisations to consider applying.”

Applications for the Active Club Program open today and run until September 23 2020.

The program has delivered more than $47m in funding since 1996.  A separate grant application – the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program – is worth $4.328 mil and will be launched in October.  Clubs wanting to improve facilities such as change rooms and grandstands are eligible to receive up to $1 mil in funding.  Applicants usually have to tip in at least 50 per cent of the project costs.
