Senior Men’s Team ready to do battle for glory
Ahead of the trip to Western Australia, the Bowls SA Senior Men’s State Team, is preparing to climb the mountain again after tasting the ultimate glory just two attempts earlier.
The side features a wealth of state and high-level competition experience, with the selected players set to don the state colours from October 10-13 at the Osborne Park Bowling Club.
The state will send a strong contingent of players for the Australian Senior Sides Championships, including debutants Tony Lucas, Malcolm Squire, and Mark Wrigley.
South Australia had four wins last year at the event, and team manager Peter Mueller is confident his senior men can improve that result in 2026.
“Three of our guys – Garry Smith, Paul Davies, and Daryl Steinwedel – have been up to Dubbo and they had a pretty good week up there, and a few of the boys played in the Spring carnival at Moonta too,” he said.
“A lot of the boys have been playing in tournaments in preparation, so I’m very happy with that, and they’re all keen, and have been doing a lot of practice which is good.
“I’m happy with where things are at, and we’ve got a lead-up game against Western Australia, so for the debutants that’s great in particular.
“I feel we’ve got the mix right, and they all look very compatible to me, and get on well so that’s important especially in the early games.
“When we won it a couple of years ago we were able to win those early games and that set us up really well, so we’ve got a focus on that.
“It’s all about support for each other, and if we do that, we’ll be ok.”
