SA Armed Bowlers 2025 State Singles Championship – Event Recap
The SA Armed Bowlers proudly hosted the 2025 State Singles Championship over the weekend of April 26th to 28th at the beautifully maintained Salisbury Bowling Club. The event was graced with ideal weather conditions and outstanding green surfaces, setting the perfect stage for a highly competitive and enjoyable tournament.
This year saw a remarkable milestone, with a record-breaking 54 armed bowlers taking to the greens—our highest participation to date. The strong turnout reflects the continued growth and enthusiasm within the armed bowls community across South Australia.
The competition was fierce throughout the weekend, with bowlers showcasing both skill and sportsmanship in equal measure. After a series of well-fought matches, the semi-final rounds saw Geoff Blaser (Spalding) take on Jason Riebe (Toorak Burnside), while Tom Ellis (Grange) faced Phil Sanders (Salisbury). Both semi-finals were closely contested and a testament to the high calibre of play across the board.
Ultimately, Tom Ellis and Jason Riebe emerged victorious in their respective matches to progress to the final. The final match was played in great spirit and was a fitting conclusion to the championship. Tom Ellis secured the title—his second State Singles Championship—cementing his place as one of the top armed bowlers in the state.
Jason Riebe, finishing as runner-up, impressed many throughout the weekend. With relatively limited experience using the arm, his strong performance indicates a promising future and makes him a player to watch in seasons to come.
Congratulations to all competitors, and a special thank you to the Salisbury Bowling Club for their hospitality and support in delivering another successful championship.
