Ron Mitchell gains Bowls SA Life Membership

The late Ron Mitchell will be honoured for his contribution to the sport of lawn bowls here in South Australia by being inducted as a Bowls SA life member at the upcoming awards night.

Ron is one of two new life members to be inducted at the event on Friday, May 21.

A long-serving member of the West Lakes Bowling Club, Ron gave a countless amount of his time across various roles.

Some of his roles included South Australian State Under 18 coach, Bowls SA Coaching and Junior Committee member and chairperson, and Bowls SA board member.

He also played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Metropolitan Bowls Association and he was the inaugural president of the association.

Ron’s service would have exceeded 15 years in these various roles and despite having sadly passed away, his legacy in lawn bowls continues to live on.

Ron’s daughter Christine said she was proud to receive the news of her father’s induction as a Bowls SA life member.

“I think it is a great tribute to how much time he put in and the passion he had for lawn bowls,” she said.

“It became his life in retirement, he put a lot of energy into it and he loved it.

“Sometimes I think I had to make an appointment to see him because he always had so many things on the go, which we loved, because it was such a big part of his life.”

Bowls SA thanks Ron for his contribution to our sport and we look forward to acknowledging his efforts with his family at the upcoming awards night.
