Stage set for Prestige Medley
The top players from the 12 regions across our state will converge on the Riverland this weekend for the Prestige Medley.
The event will take place on April 10 and 11, with the Loxton, Loxton RSL and The Lawns bowling clubs each hosting matches.
Last year’s event was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, with Region 11 (Metro South) winning the 2018/19 women’s event and Region 10 (Metro East) taking out the men’s.
Each region has selected nine players for their women’s team and nine for their men’s outfit, with each team required to fill a pair, a triple and a four.
The competitions are played in two sections of six, with each of those six teams playing each other, before the top teams from each section face off in the grand final.
Region 12 (Metro West) will go into the event as one of the favourites to take out the men’s title, as they will field a star-studded line-up including Craig Mills, Nathan Black, Mark Haines, Tyson Wilson and Simon Geater-Johnson, along with a number of other high-profile players.
Region 10 (Metro East) will be very keen on defending its title from two years ago, with the likes of Tony Treloar, Chris Flavel and Gabe Nardecchia leading their charge.
Region 7 (Fleurieu and KI), the last non Metro region to win the event back in 2011/12, will fancy its chances, coming off a win in the recent men’s Country Round Robin and having been runner up in the 2018/19 Prestige Medley.
The women’s competition is also set to be hotly contested, with a number of regions taking in strong line-ups.
Region 12 (Metro West) has also selected a star-studded women’s team, which includes Karen Gatto, Jackie Field, Bailey Rafferty and Sheridon Bodnar.
Region 10 (Metro East) will also field a formidable line-up, which will include Laini McGorman, Rachel Krebbekx, Chris Thulborn, Joan Prosser and Vicki Denhardt.
Region 8 (Lower North) will be looking to upset the metro regions, as they head into the event with a side including Cath Greenslade and Yvonne Kelly.
Region 11 (Metro South) will be intent on defending its title from 2018/19, while Region 5 (Eyre Peninsula) will be a team to watch after winning the recent women’s Country Round Robin.
