Plenty happening at Parndana
The Parndana Bowling Club continues to be a hive of activity for not just bowlers on Kangaroo Island.
Following the horrific bushfires in 2020, a number of Blaze Aid volunteers headed over to the island to assist with the rebuild.
They were based at the Parndana Oval, but every evening they headed over to the bowling club where a meal was prepared for them.
The club charged minimal hire fee, but they were able to make available their bar facilities and the workers were certainly thirsty after a hard day’s work.
This went on until COVID-19 lockdowns begun.
Their facilities were also used free of charge by the Western Districts Sporting Community, who had lost their clubrooms in the fires.
Through the Well Being grant, the bowling club were able to offer a game of bowls and a meal free of charge.
They also made available their clubrooms for a venue to hold their AGM.
Meanwhile, in February of this year, the club hosted a men’s luncheon for those struggling with the mental health issues caused as a result of the bushfires.
They also held a Women’s dinner along the same lines, providing a guest speaker and entertainment.
The club also assisted a Young Mothers group, with a morning tea and a roll up for those that wished.
The facilities were also made available to Sophie Thompson and a group of local volunteers, who established a community garden designed to assist fire victims to feel good but more importantly help them re-establish their own garden.
