Pairs sectionals on show
Today saw plenty of pairs action, with section play in the third and final discipline for the 2023 MGA men’s country carnival getting under way.
75 pairs sectionals were played at Brighton, Kensington/Marryatville, Ascot Park, Salisbury, Marion, Modbury, Trinity Gardens, Holdfast Bay, Hawthorn, Edwardstown, Glenelg and Playford today.
Kadina’s B. Hines/D. Bushell showed they mean business this year, comfortably winning section two at Brighton today, while Yankalilla’s M. Putland/P. Mason also came out on top of their group at the same venue.
Over at Kensington/Marryatville, Moonta’s G. Curtis/K. Coates were undefeated in their section, while Murray Bridge’s M. Callery/B. Attrill progressed from section 11 thanks to shots for.
The Snowtown duo of Z. Cocks/L. Freebairn overcame a tough section to progress from Ascot Park, while Port Elliot’s P. Hollow/C. Monk made it through on shots for from section 16.
T. Charman (Mt Barker)/G. Deeble (Hahndorf) got the job done in section 21 at Salisbury, while the Port Lincoln pair of G. Schaedel/K. Wakefield also progressed from their section.
Uraidla’s H. Feijen/D. Gleeson were dominant in their three matches at Marion, while Naracoorte’s A. Grant/P. Marshall had to rely on shots for to make their way through.
Modbury played host to some exciting matches, with Mt Gambier RSL’s R. Corner/D. Wilkinson going through undefeated, while Port Wakefield’s M. Rankine/A. Fontaine won their way through from section 36.
W. Collins (Waikerie)/J. Voigt (Angaston) were too strong in section 42 at Trinity Gardens, while Hahndorf’s C. Rowe/B. Robertson also put on an impressive show amongst tough competition.
Robe’s P. Lynch/D. Burgoyne continued their impressive form so far this week by winning their section at West Lakes, while Laura’s M. Kleinig/A. Kleinig also topped their group.
Club Holdfast saw Yorketown’s K. Rickard/M. Castiglia win section 50 on shots for, while S. Kroehn (Jervois)/M. Waechter (Karoonda) finished the day undefeated.
Arthurton’s G. Schilling/M. Moloney impressed on their way to winning their section at Hawthorn, while D. Steinwedel (Kingscote)/G. Smith (Laura) topped section 59.
Over at Edwardstown, Cummins’ R. Pearson/G. Hayman dominated section 61, while Kirton’s D. Karger/D. Hage were also clinical.
Port Pirie’s K. Franks/K. Connor won section 67 at Playford, while Booleroo Centre’s P. Waters/B. Badenoch were the standouts in section 70.
C. Bartlett/G. Cooper, of Yankalilla, won section 73 at Glenelg, while R. Barrett (Kingscote)/J. Hateley (Parndana) topped section 75 on percentage.
Tomorrow will see fours knockouts matches played as the business end of the competition approaches.
