Night Owls season a success at Brighton
Brighton Bowling Club Night Owls started in October 2020, and was disrupted for a couple of weeks due to COVID, the club run two successful evenings on Wednesday and Thursday. The committee realised that the number of teams were down from the previous season and so the income would drop as Night Owls is one of the club’s largest financial support, both by playing members, and bar takings. Brighton is partnered with the RSL, who provide bar support, which is greatly appreciated.
The committee decided on a new format for Wednesday nights, with all teams playing games for league positions until the end of February when the league was split into two. The top 8 teams playing straight knockouts for the ultimate prize of their name on the club winners’ board and the $200 cash prize. The 9-16 were not forgotten, as they had their own playoffs for a lesser prize money of $40. All teams played for the three weeks before finals so they had a final placing for the season.
The final was played in showery conditions on 24th March between the Oxley Brothers Hot Shots and RC Fluckers, and what a game it was. It came to the last end with Hot Shots holding a 2-shot lead, but Fluckers took a 3-shot head in the end to win.
The winning team celebrated in style and took their long-suffering partners out for a meal and had their own trophy to show to all.
A special mention must go to all the teams who made the nights fun and joined in the laughs and friendship that makes the Night Owls special
