MGA Women’s Country Carnival kicks off
One of the most popular events on the South Australian bowls calendar kicked off today, with the 2023 MGA women’s country carnival getting underway.
17 sectionals of fours matches helped launch a big week of bowls, with the Grange, West Lakes and Hawthorn bowling clubs hosting the action.
Players battled tough conditions, with the Arthurton combination of A. Adams/J. Bagshaw/V. McLean/J. Bagshaw coming out on top of section seven at West Lakes thanks to shots up.
The rink of K. Lynch (Laura)/L. Tenney (Laura)/C. Greenslade (Riverton)/J. Kotz (Keith) were a dominant force in section 10 at West Lakes as they progressed to the next stage.
Over at Grange, Wallaroo’s D. Milner/L. Jolly/M. Brandt/P. Young won their way through a very tough section one, before being eliminated in a knockout match to conclude the day.
Meanwhile D. Keogh (Woodside)/L. Harten (Lobethal)/J. Baker (Woodside)/L. Harten (Lobethal) finished undefeated in section three, also at Grange.
Birchmore’s L. Whyte/B. Beal/J. Cowin/C. Jarmin overcame a tough group to progress from section 14 at Hawthorn.
The same venue saw the talented foursome of J. Kraguljack (Goolwa)/G. Steinwedel (Kingscote)/L. Robinson (Milang)/A. Merrit (Willunga) come away victorious in section 16.
Tomorrow’s singles sectionals action kicks off at 9:30am, with matches to be played at the Modbury and Marion bowling clubs.
