MGA Women’s Country Carnival Finals Day
The 2021 MGA Women’s Country Carnival wrapped up yesterday at the Toorak Burnside Bowling Club in what was a marathon 12-hour day of knockout games.
It all kicked off at 8:30am with the Fours Semi Finals, which saw the team of Kotz (Keith) beat the team of Edmunds (Streaky Bay), whilst Lynch (Cummins) got the better of Hutchinson (Hahndorf) to set up a great final, kicking off at 11am. In the end the team of Kotz (Keith), Greenslade (Riverton), Tenney (Laura) and Lynch (Laura) pulled off a resounding victory 19-5.
In the pairs we had the first semi-final of Treloar (Berri) and Nicholls (Mt Barker) vs Steinwedel (Kingscote) and Robinson (Milang) kick off at 11am, with the singles semi finalists teaming up for a close pairs encounter. A big last end saw Lee Robinson (Milang) and Steinwedel (Kingscote) beat Treloar (Berri) and Nicholls (Mt Barker) 14-8 to set up a final against Lynch and Tenney (Laura), who beat Eatts (Kimba) and Lehmann (Pt Lincoln) after winning the fours title just moments before. The pairs final kicked off at 4:45pm, with the team of of Steinwedel (Kingscote) and Robinson (Milang) proving too strong for Tenney and Lynch (Laura), running out 19-4 victors.
Meanwhile, the singles semi-finals also kicked off at 8:30am, with Lee Robinson (Milang) facing off against her pairs teammate Gayle Steinwedel (Kingscote), with Robinson taking victory in this match 25-14. The second semi was delayed until the completion of Kotz’s fours commitments, which saw this match-up take place at 2pm. Kotz (Keith) faced Grace Moloney (Arthurton), with Kotz coming away victorious 25-21 to qualify for her second final of the day. The final of the singles couldn’t begin however until Robinson had completed her pairs duties. As such, the singles final got underway at 7pm. The game was very tight early, before Robinson (Milang) pulled away from Kotz (Keith) to take out the singles crown 25-15 to make it two wins out of three competitions for Region 7 – a feat achieved by Robinson this year in her first ever country carnival appearance.
