Barossa and Light Bowling Association recorder Jo Marslen was recognised for her hard work by being named Administrator of the Year at the 2023 – 2024 Bowls SA Awards Night.

Marslen creates four Saturday and three mid-week competitions and draws for her association, as well as association championships and the Region 8 BMW inter-association tournament.

She is also the Region 4 event manager and board member, creating the regional championships in BowlsLink.

This season Marslen created every pennant competition, a total of seven, over Saturday and Thursdays, completed all draws to fit with scheduling and venue capacities in the Barossa and Light Association.

She also assists clubs with draws, monitors rule breaches, and implements BowlsLink changes for the association.

Marslen said it felt “pretty amazing” to win the award.

“I certainly wasn’t expecting it, she said.

“It’s a major achievement and while I do a lot, it is my passion, so it doesn’t feel like a job to me because I enjoy doing it.”

Marslen said her passion for bowls comes as a result of a special family connection.

“I got to play the sport with my dad and learnt that its one thing to be a bowler out there and get the accolades, but there is a team behind the scenes that allows that to happen,” she said.

“Bowling was never going to be my fantastic talent, so I tried my hand at the administration and love it.”
