Knockout stages under way

by admin on February 2, 2023

The knockout stages of the 2023 MGA men’s country carnival kicked off today, with the fours field  trimmed down to the semi-finalists.

Henley and Marion hosted the action, with the final four teams locked in for the finals day on Monday at Marion.

The first semi-final will see the Kadina quartet of R. Spry/P. Miller/D. Bushell/B. Hines take on J. Conte (Lobethal)/A. Day (Woodside)/ D. Stanbury (Lobethal)/W. Zilm (Lobethal) after the two teams won their way through three matches today.

The other two teams doing battle for a spot in the final will be the Berri rink of C. Hill/M. Collins/S. Eichenberger/A. Hill and B. Burnett (Waikerie)/N. Cronin (Waikerie)/W. Collins (Waikerie)/J. Voigt (Angaston).

Three of the quarter final matches were decided by two shots or less, with Burnett/Cronin/Collins/Voigt taking down the highly fancied foursome of A. Kleinig (Laura)/H. Geater-Johnson (Arthurton)/S. Geater-Johnson (Arthurton)/M. Kleinig (Laura) by just one shot.

The Berri team were the most convincing performers, winning their final eight match by seven shots to book their place on finals day.

A number of the players featured today will have to back it up again tomorrow in the pairs knockouts at Ascot Park and Marion, with Saturday a rest/back up day, before singles knockouts take place on Sunday.
