International flavour for local Bowling Clubs

by admin on October 29, 2018

Twelve players from the Tanglin Bowling Club in Singapore called South Australian Bowling clubs ‘home’ from the week of October 22nd – 29th. Through connections established with Lawn Bowlers from Australia, a tour was set up to provide the visitors with an opportunity to play competitive matches against local clubs, with the goal of raising the overall standard of bowls in Singapore.

The organizers from the Tanglin Club were also specifically interested in providing opportunities for their players to experience different conditions and surfaces to play on which the local South Australian clubs provided.
Hahndorf Bowling Club is one club who hosted the international bowlers and provided a team to play against. Local member Graham Evans provided the following excerpt and photos on the days event:

Last Friday Hahndorf Bowling hosted members of the Tanglin Bowling Club from Singapore.   Whilst Hahndorf won the day, “bowls was the winner” with the games played in high spirits and great comradery.  New friends were made and hopefully retained.
The Clubroom presentation was a credit to Shelly Howe and the luncheon matched the day.  Our sincere thanks to Shelly, Val Deeble, Di Bateman and Janet Liebelt for their service before, throughout and after the luncheon.
Following the luncheon gifts, compliments of Bowls SA and Hahndorf Bowling Club, were exchanged plus an engraved plague from the Tanglin Club was presented to Hahndorf coordinator Graham Evans by Tanglin coordinator Rodger Kimpton.  One comment made by our guests was what an “idyllic setting” for a bowling club.
We now have a presence on the international stage!!   Photo attached of the two teams plus Rodger Kimpton for Tanglin Club.

The international guests also visited the Lockleys ,Grange &  Reynella Bowling club during their stay. Amongst this they had the opportunity to visit popular South Australian tour destinations such as the Hills, Barossa Valley & McLaren Vale areas.
