Graham Gets His Moment in the Sun
Graham Houston’s tireless efforts to promote bowls on the Fleurieu Peninsula saw him receive the Media Recognition acknowledgment at the recent Bowls SA Awards.
A member at Victor Harbor and vice-president of the Great Southern Bowling Association, Graham is a regular feature in local media, either in written or verbal form in local newspapers or on radio.
Graham said he was “happy” to receive this award, but his hard work won’t be stopping anytime soon.
“There is quite a lot of work involved, so it is much appreciated to be recognized and I will continue to do my bit this coming season,” he said.
Promoting the sport of bowls and helping sustain the sport for the future are what drives Graham.
“I know the demographic of our area is of an older age group, and I am trying to attract younger players,” he said.
“Without grandparents or parents playing bowls, it is hard to get younger ones in.
“We encourage schools to come and try the sport during the week and we are doing as many other things as we can.”
Graham encouraged other bowling clubs and associations to utilise their local media to help promote the sport of bowls across the state.
“Somebody needs to drive it,” he said.
“Anybody in the club that has the will to do it, I’m sure the local newspaper would love to receive some editorial.”
