Officials Course: Mount Barker
Take the first step towards becoming an Umpire and get yourself enrolled into one of our Officials Courses.
This is an opportunity for those in the Mt Barker area to be reaccredited as an Umpire, Marker or Measurer. See below for details.
What is involved?
- Some pre-course readings
- 4-hour small group session facilitated by one of Bowls SA’s qualified Presenter and Assessors
- Practical and theory assessment
- Ongoing communication from Bowls SA
The assessment is based on the Bowls Australia Laws of the Sport theory examination, and practical evaluation through an established competency-based assessment system and self-reflection.
PLEASE NOTE: All members who attend must be eligible in line with the Bowls SA No Jab, No Play policy.

There are two ways to register for this course – 1. As part of a club group booking or 2. Individually.
All Officials courses have a capacity of 10 – 12 people. As this course is also taking group bookings, if the capacity is exceeded, those who are last to book may have their booking cancelled or postponed.
How
Step 1

- Review the terms and conditions of the course
- Make payment
If you are not able to complete the process, it is likely the course is SOLD out and you will need to register in the next available course that suits you.
Step 2
Ensure you have a copy of the Law Book and Officials Manual.
These can be purchased from Bowls Australia. As these come from interstate, please allow enough time for you to receive them.
Step 3
Once registered, look over the content and check your emails (including junk or spam) for confirmation communication.
Please note:
- The capacity for the course is 12, if there is an overbooking, those who registered last will have their booking deferred or refunded.
- If you have limited access to the internet or need some support in registering, you can seek support from your club committee or give Bowls SA a call on 8234 7544.
- For Club booking, Bowls SA will invoice you
- Those registering for a course will need to purchase the Law Book and Officials Manual online from the Bowls Australia Online Shop if you don’t have one already.

Requirements:
- To undertake the Umpires course, you MUST either hold current Markers and Measurers Certificate OR be registered to undertake the qualification prior to registering for the Umpires Course.
- Please take the time to read the terms and conditions of the course.
- All participants need to have their own copy of the Officials Manual and Law Book. These can be purchased from Bowls Australia.
- All participants are required to review both prior to the course.
- You will need to bring:
- Your own set of bowls
- Your own water and lunch unless otherwise told
- Sun protection – hat and sunscreen
- Pen and paper or device to take notes
If you book the course without these requirements, your registration will be cancelled and a refund will be provided.
OFFICIALS COURSES TERMS AND CONDITIONS
All participants can be expected to be treated with respect and supported throughout the training. To pass the course, one needs to demonstrate competencies in their ability to fulfil the role including theory and physical components.
Course preparation
- All participants need to have their own copy of the Officials Manual and Law Book. These can be purchased from Bowls Australia.
- All participants are required to review both prior to the course.
Code of Behaviour Agreements
- All Officials are required to agree and uphold the Bowls Australia Code of Behaviour and Sport Australia’s Code of Ethics. Any breaches of behaviours or any other relevant policies could result in qualifications being suspended or cancelled.
- In the case that Bowls SA takes photos or video at the course, I give Bowls SA permission to capture my image and for them to be used as promotional content for Bowls SA.
No Jab, No Play Policy
- To ensure the safety and wellbeing of members, Bowls SA introduced a No Jab, No Policy regarding the requirement of members be vaccinated against COVID-19. This also means officials involved with Bowls SA State Events, Pennants and those who deliver and attend Bowls SA training courses.
Cancellations and refunds
- If you are no longer able to attend a session, you will be provided with a credit to rebook a course within the next 9 months.
- If payment was made via your club, Bowls SA will work with your club regarding any refunds
- Requests for refunds must be made in within 14 working days prior to the commencement of the course. All requests must be sent to reception@bowlssa.com.au
- All refunds are subject to an administration fee of 20% of the total course fee.
- Refunds will be not given for partial attendance, nor will make up sessions be provided.
- No refunds will be provided if an umpire is deemed not yet competent.
- Refunds will be paid at the completion of the course.
- Bowls Australia Ltd and your state/territory association reserve the right to cancel the course. Every effort will be made to give reasonable notice to those who have applied when a course is cancelled. Those enrolled will be given a full refund.
