Bowls SA AGM 2021

Bowls SA as an organisation is a reflection of its membership base, while developing the sport of Lawn Bowls in the state of South Australia and after a Covid impacted year, the Board is pleased to advise that the Bowls SA 2021 Annual General Meeting, will be held on Monday, 27th September 2021.

The AGM will be facilitated in a hybrid model (ie via Zoom communication technology and in-person) at Club Holdfast Bowling Club, giving all affiliated clubs the opportunity to attend, hear and have their say in shaping the future of the bowls in the state.


Board Nominations

There are three Bowls SA Board Director positions up for re-election at the 2021 AGM. These positions are currently held by:

  • Heather Cowden-Tonkes
  • Jeff Krebbekx
  • Matthew Romaine

The deadline to submit a nomination, which was 5pm, 27th August 2021, has now passed.

The female candidates are Heather Cowden-Tonkes, of Club Holdfast, and Kay Matthias, of the Watervale Bowling Club.

Club Holdfast’s Peter Hammond, Happy Valley’s Ian James, and Watervale’s Steve Pierce are the male nominees.

Club Delegates

Everyone who attends the AGM, in person or via Zoom, must register their attendance via the online registration form below.

Each Member Club may be represented by two (2) delegates at an AGM, but each Member Club shall have only one (1) vote.

Each Member Club shall nominate its voting delegate and any other attendees by 10th September 2021 via the registration form below. Details of the voting process will be provided in due course.

For those attending by Zoom, the link to attend will be provided the via the email you provide as part of registering, closer to the AGM.

COVID Requirements

Bowls SA events are held according to the current restrictions SA Health direction and operate under a COVID Management Plan. The AGM will be managed under Club Holdfast Coivd Safe plan. This page will be updated regularly based on changes to restrictions.

Officials Course: Marker at Holdfast

Take the first step towards becoming a marker and get yourself enrolled into one of our Officials Courses.

Bowls Australia’s Markers Course can be undertaken by those who wish to hold the role of Marker at their club or for anyone wishing to complete the Umpires Course. This course must be either complete prior to undertaking the Umpires Course, or be registered to do so.

This course is not suitable for those wishing to be re-accredited.

All accreditations last for four years and after this period of time, you will need to successfully complete a re-accreditation course to maintain the qualification.

What is involved?

If you decide to undertake any of the courses, you can expect:

  • Some pre course readings
  • 4-hour small group session facilitated by one of Bowls SA qualified Presenter and Assessors
  • Practical and theory assessment
  • Ongoing communication from Bowls SA

The assessment is based on the Bowls Australia Laws of the Sport theory examination, and practical evaluation through an established competency-based assessment system and self-reflection.

PLEASE NOTE: while communication throughout the event may reference purchasing the Officials Manual required for the course from Bowls Australia, for a limited time, it can be purchased online from Bowls SA.

From November 2021, all members will need to purchase the manuals from Bowls Australia.

Cancellations and refunds 

  • If you are no longer able to attend a session, you will be provided with a credit to rebook a course within the next 9 months.
  • Requests for refunds must be made in within 14 working days prior to the commencement of the course. All requests must be sent to reception@bowlssa.com.au
  • All refunds are subject to an administration fee of 20% of the total course fee.
  • Refunds will be not given for partial attendance, nor will make up sessions be provided.
  • No refunds will be provided if an umpire is deemed not yet competent.
  • Refunds will be paid at the completion of the course.
  • Bowls Australia Ltd and your state/territory association reserve the right to cancel the course. Every effort will be made to give reasonable notice to those who have applied when a course is cancelled. Those enrolled will be given a full refund.

To undertake a Bowls Australia re-accreditation course (Umpires or Measures/Markers) your Officials qualification must not be more than 4 months expired. This course is only suitable for those wishing to be re-accredited.

All accreditations last for four years and after this period of time, you will need to successfully complete a re-accreditation course to maintain the qualification.

Those registering for a course will need to purchase the Law Book and Officials Manual online from the Bowls Australia Online Shop if you don't have one already.

PLEASE NOTE: while communication throughout the event may reference purchasing the Officials Manual required for the course from Bowls Australia, for a limited time, it can be purchased online from Bowls SA. From November 2021, all members will need to purchase the manuals from Bowls Australia.

How

Step 1

  • Submit all required information
  • Review the terms and conditions of the course     
  • Make payment

If you are not able to complete the process, it is likely the course is SOLD out and you will need to register in the next available course that suits you.

Step 2

Ensure you have a copy of the Law Book and Officials Manual.

These can be purchased from Bowls Australia. As these come from interstate, please allow enough time for you to receive them.

Step 3

Once registered, look over the content and check your emails (including junk or spam) for confirmation communication.

  • If you have limited access to the internet or need some support in registering, you can seek support from your club committee or give Bowls SA a call on 8234 7544.

  • All participants are required to review both prior to the course.
  • This course is a requirement to undertake an Umpires Course
  • You will need to bring:
    • Your own set of bowls
    • Your own  water and lunch unless otherwise told
    • Sun protection - hat and sunscreen
    • Pen and paper or device to take notes

OFFICIALS COURSES TERMS AND CONDITIONS 

All participants can be expected to be treated with respect and supported throughout the training. To pass the course, one needs to demonstrate competencies in their ability to fulfil the role including theory and physical components.  

Course preparation

  • All participants are required to review both prior to the course.

Code of Behaviour Agreements 

Cancellations and refunds 

  • If you are no longer able to attend a session, you will be provided with a credit to rebook a course within the next 9 months.
  • Requests for refunds must be made in within 14 working days prior to the commencement of the course. All requests must be sent to reception@bowlssa.com.au
  • All refunds are subject to an administration fee of 20% of the total course fee.
  • Refunds will be not given for partial attendance, nor will make up sessions be provided.
  • No refunds will be provided if an umpire is deemed not yet competent.
  • Refunds will be paid at the completion of the course.
  • Bowls Australia Ltd and your state/territory association reserve the right to cancel the course. Every effort will be made to give reasonable notice to those who have applied when a course is cancelled. Those enrolled will be given a full refund.
