Coach Development Day

by BowlsSA2 on September 13, 2019

Bowls SA would like to thank the Playford Bowling Club for hosting the Coach Development Day on Friday the 13th of September at their brand new undercover facility.

Bowls SA would also like to thank our presenters, Les Carter, Peter Roberts and Brian Scarlett for their amazing work throughout the day. All participants left feeling more confident to take on their coaching role, or take the appropriate steps to become an accredited club coach.

The day started with Les Carter showing us that every player has varying techniques through stance, grip, step and swing. Les, pointed out that these varying techniques don’t have to be changed. He also provided a great insight into how varying techniques will change the bowl being played.

We then had the pleasure of listening and discussing with Peter Roberts, the implications of bowling arms and how it affects bowlers. He provided a wealth of knowledge into the specifics around delivering the bowl through a bowling arm.

After lunch, Brian Scarlett had the floor and held a discussion around Junior bowlers and how to coach them. He had a specific view on 7 – 13 year old’s and emphasised the need for the sessions to be fun. Brian provided attendees with some exciting drills for children and everyone discussed their favourite drills, that they had seen.

Overall a great day was had by all participants, learning new ways to coach all kind of members and what to look for when problems re-occur in a players game.

Thank you again to the Playford Bowling Club and our generous presenters for their time and effort.
