Champion of Champion Pairs for 22/23
The 2022/23 Champion of Champions Pairs competition has come to a close after two action packed days.
Lockleys, Ascot Park and Holdfast Bay Bowling Clubs hosted this year’s women’s and men’s pairs knockouts through to finals.
On Wednesday this week the Women’s competition began with the round of 32 facing off, then continuing through to the resulting final 8. This morning was a brisk start, to play the semi and the final. All women’s matches were played at Lockleys Bowling Club.
The semi-finals saw a close win by C Hayman (Cummins)/A Baldock (Cummins) against R Walker (Lobethal)/A Schubert (Lobethal) while K Gatto (West Lakes)/J Field (West Lakes) completed a strong win against S Wallace (Adelaide)/L McGorman (Adelaide) to reach the final.
The women’s final today saw K Gatto (West Lakes)/J Field (West Lakes) put scoreboard pressure on the Cummins team of C Hayman/A Baldock early to eventually take the championship to become back-to-back winners.
Yesterday in the Mens Champion of Champion Pairs at Ascot Park Bowling Club the round of 64 faced off, then continued through to the completion of the final 16. In a big day of action, the final 8 kicked off this morning at Holdfast Bay and Lockleys Bowling Clubs.
In the semi-finals N Pedersen (Somerton)/S Colvill (Somerton) defeated G Nethercott (Salisbury)/J Pittaway (Salisbury) in a comfortable win while R O’Shaughnessy (Naracoorte RSL)/D O’Shaughnessy (Naracoorte RSL) were defeated by M Short (Angaston)/J Voigt (Angaston) in a tight tussle to the end.
The men’s final between Somerton’s N Pedersen/S Colvill vs Angaston’s M Short and J Voigt was a closely fought battle with only 1 shot scored per end for the first 8 ends before Somerton broke away to take a 4 shot win.
