Les Carter has announced that he will be stepping down as South Australian Men’s State coach, effective immediately.

The man affectionately known as Bushy has coached the South Australian Men’s team since 2014, following a decorated career as a State player, which saw him represent SA on 151 occasions.

The move comes as Les focuses on his role as High Performance Coach with the Hong Kong China national team.

Les said he has “thoroughly enjoyed” his time as coach of our State men’s team.

“I believe it has been a successful period with regards to player development, team culture, and game performance,” he said.

“As a team our major highlight was winning the Australian Sides Championship in 2016/17 and achieving runner-up in 2014/15.

“This was only the second time in the State’s history that the Australian Sides Championship has been won by SA.”

Les also believes after seven years at the helm, that it is in the team’s best interests for a change in leadership to keep the players fresh and engaged.

In 2017, Les was crowned the Australian Coach of the Year at the Bowls Australia Hall of Fame and Awards Night.

Bowls SA thanks Les for his outstanding service and wishes him all the best in his role overseas.
