Following a tumultuous selection period, where it has been forced to make two changes after the initial team announcement, the SA Open Men’s Team is raring to go for this year’s Nationals.

To be held in Perth, WA from October 15-18, at the Osborne Park Bowling Club, the state will send an experienced contingent of players for the Australian Sides Championships, including debutants Isaac Jesser and Todd Brand.

Jesser was a late inclusion into the team, while Stuart Forbes will also take his place as a Lead, following a recent injury to Marion’s Ashley Klose.

Open Men’s coach Les ‘Bushy’ Carter said he is pleased with the way his team have prepared themselves for their Western Australia trip.

“Preparations have been going well, although we did have a little bit of a hiccup last weekend with an injury, but we’re still confident that our pre-training and selection will hold us in good stead,” he said.

“It’s not a direct replacement, because Adrian Green will go into Three, and Stuart trialled there right the way through, so we’re confident he will be fine.

“We still had three players that we could have chosen, and there were still three really quality players who unfortunately have missed out.

“We’re bowling well, but it’s about getting people used to one another, and working as a core group of 12, and we had a bit of change, so you have to factor that in at selection.

“The team all get on well, so we don’t have any issues, so I think it’s reasonably seamless.”
