Bowls is back in Schools
As the COVID-related restrictions begin to ease in South Australia, so too has the restrictions surrounding external parties attending schools to deliver sporting programs. As such, for the first time since March, this week we have been able to get back into schools. This has coincided with the start of the Sporting Schools programs at Blackwood PS and Dernancourt PS, as well as teacher-led programs taking place in Lucindale, Berri and Stansbury.
This term, alongside the three teacher-led programs, Kim Moffatt of Christies Beach Bowling Club is running 5 sessions per week for 150 students at Blackwood Primary School as part of the Sporting Schools Program. Further to this, Jamie Thomas from Modbury Bowling Club is also running 7 sessions per week to cater for 202 students at Dernancourt Primary School across the next four weeks. It’s exciting to see our great sport being enjoyed by these young children through structured, game-based activities focused on fun, inclusion and practicing the key skills of the sport.
Now is the time to get your club involved with the local schools. Primary School Sporting Schools grant applications from Sport Australia close next Friday (Sep 4), so if you have a local school you wish to get involved with contact James Wilson on jwilson@bowls.com.au or 0437 527 161 ASAP.
Your club can also purchase the Jr Jack Attack kit by contacting James on the above details.
