Holdfast Bay’s Nathan Black was crowned winner of the open Men’s State Representative of the Year at the 2023 – 2024 Bowls SA Awards night.

This marks the second year in a row that Black, a member of the Australian Jackaroos squad has won this award.

The youngest player in the South Australian men’s team, Black experienced his first national competition skipping a rink this season and promptly rose to the occasion.

Black said he was proud to claim the award and is looking forward to what the future holds for the State open men’s team.

“It’s a huge honour to be recognised with this award in back-to-back years,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we have a few outs going into this year’s event in October, but there is plenty of youth coming through the side.

“I’m really looking forward to getting out there with the lads and having another crack at it.”

Despite getting a taste of wearing the green and gold, Black said pulling on his state uniform still provides a special feeling.

“It is a huge honour and whenever I pull on those colours, I’m out there to make my state proud,” he said.
