4 Game Day at Marion to wrap up the Men’s Country Carnival

by admin on February 6, 2023

Today saw the 2023 MGA men’s country carnival come to a close with semi-finals and finals at the Marion Bowling Club.

The day kicked off with the fours and singles semi-finals.

P. Gageler (Zinc Broken Hill) and D. Bennett (Moonta) progressed through to the singles decider after winning their first games of the day respectively.

The fours semi-finals were both one-sided, with the Kadina rink of R. Spry/P. Miller/D. Bushell/B. Hines winning through to the grand final to take on the foursome made up of Waikerie’s B. Burnett/N. Cronin/W. Collins and Angaston’s J. Voigt.

After a back-and-forth battle in the singles decider, Gageler eventually claimed a seven-shot win to cap off a memorable week, while Gumeracha’s B. Mullins defeated Port Neill’s K. Shepherd in the third-place playoff that went down to the wire.

In the fours final it was the Waikerie/Angaston foursome that was able to grind out a hard-fought seven-shot win to claim the title in a low-scoring contest.

The rink of C. Hill (Berri)/M. Collins (Moonta)/S. Eichenberger (Berri)/A. Hill (Berri) won the third-place playoff by one shot against the combination of B. Scown (Lobethal)/A. Day (Woodside)/D. Stanbury (Lobethal)/W. Zilm (Lobethal).

The afternoon saw the team of B. Earle (Kadina)/K. Robinson (Wallaroo) take on the combination of G. Brand (Laura)/B. Murdock (Wirrabara) in the pairs final after they both won their respective semi-finals.

Earle/Robinson eventually pulled away after a tough contest to record a 10-shot victory and claim the pairs title.

The third-place playoff saw the Kadina pair of B. Hines/D. Bushell defeat the Kangaroo Island duo of R. Barrett (Kingscote)/J. Hateley (Parndana) by 11 shots.
