2024-25 State Under 18 Champions

by Marketing on January 16, 2025

Junior Bowlers from every corner of South Australia congregated to the Lockleys Bowling Club during the school holidays, battling it out to be crowned Under 18 State Champions in the Singles, Pairs and Triples disciplines.

The greens were filled with laughter, mentoring, bowls far and near and most importantly smiles from everyone. The talent on display was mesmerising as the future of bowls in South Australia was on showcase.

The Singles kicked off the week with a strong field of 12 girls stepping onto the green. Out of the three sections, the winners proceeded to the Semi Final on Thursday along with the overall next best performance.

The bronze medal match saw last years champions Anda Panchawat (Port Noarlunga) against Skye Wilson (Port MacDonnell) in her first finals appearance at a championship. After facing each other earlier in the week with a scoreline of 19, Skye knew she would have to put on her best performance. Although a valiant effort, Anda managed to come out on top with a 21-14 win.

Over in the gold medal match, it was going to be a maiden singles title for either Ava Vass (Curramulka) or Daisy Coe (Gladstone). Daisy started with her best foot forward which was rewarded with a 6-12 start. Quick to be derailed when Ava picked up a 3 on both end 14 and 15 to bring the scores back to even. Holding her nerve and finishing strong, Daisy walked away victorious with a 21-18 win.

The Boys Singles field was up by a staggering 24%, forming 6 sections full of a mix of experience and newcomers. Competing for bronze was triples teammates, Noah Phillips (Port Noarlunga) and Sammy Milkins (Somerton). Leading the whole game in the tough conditions, Noah managed a 21-16 win to take home the medal.

A repeat of the 2023-24 Boy’s singles gold medal match was on the cards, with Charlie Hicks (Adelaide) taking on Kobe Jarman (Adelaide). Charlie showed determination to not let history repeat and stayed calm and composed. Managing to add his name to the shield for the second time with a 21-11 win.

With entries up by 25% compared to the 2023-24 competition, the pairs discipline brought the action with some upsets early in the competition. With 5 sections, the two lowest ranked section winners had to play off to make the final semi-final.

The bronze medal match was a testament for the new wave of talent storming through the Under 18 system, with three bowlers making their first final. The pair of Ava Coe (Gladstone) / Anda Panchawat (Port Noarlunga) prevailed over Jakobe Evans (Georgetown) / Patrick Cock (Gladstone) with a tough battled, 3 shot win of 19-16.

In windy conditions, the gold medal match was nothing less than spectacular. The dynamic duo and last year’s runner ups of Kobe Jarman (Adelaide) / Charlie Hicks (Adelaide) went into the match earning a 10-1 lead after 7 ends.  A couple of well strung together ends by Noah Phillips (Port Noarlunga) / Jayden Green (Kapunda) brought back the title dreams. However, ended up falling short to Jarman and Hicks, who put two hands on the trophy with a 18-11 win.

The penultimate day saw the weather conditions change from hot to windy and cold, testing the ability of our junior bowlers. 9 teams started off the day, with only one making their way to be crowned the Open Triples Champions for 2024-25.

The bronze medal match proved to all the girls that they can be just as good (and even better) with 4 out of 6 bowlers being female. The fearsome team of Ava Vass (Curramulka) / Daisy Coe (Gladstone) / Anda Panchawat (Port Noarlunga) picked up 9 shots in three ends halfway through the game to steam ahead, holding onto their lead for the rest of the game to win by 2 shots (19-17) against the team of Payton Jones (Modbury) / Elliot Webster-Brown (Modbury) / Cameron Jamison (Modbury).

Over in the gold medal match, last years champions Kobe Jarman (Adelaide) / Liam Coe (Holdfast) / Charlie Hicks (Adelaide) had a slow start. However, switched into gear on the 12th end and did not concede another end until they were crowned back to back champions in Coe’s final year. Leaving the final score of 17-10 over the trio of Sammy Milkins (Somerton) / Ryan Hill (Berri) / Noah Phillips (Port Noarlunga).
