2023-24 Over 60’s Pairs & Mixed Pairs Champions Crowned
This week women and men from bowling clubs across South Australia have battled it out in the Over 60’s Pairs and Mixed Pairs State Championships.
Over the first three days a field of 31 women’s pairs in 8 sections played at Modbury Bowling Club while a field of 75 men’s pairs in 19 sections competed at Kensington & Marryatville, Holdfast Bay & Salisbury Bowling Clubs.
The Modbury pair of R Heitmann / V Arbon overcame the tough Lockleys pair of K Bishop / S Coultas to eventually take the Women’s pairs gold medal match at Modbury in a nail-biting single shot victory 14 shots to 13.

The men’s gold medal match at Modbury Bowling Club saw F Kelly (Victor Harbor) / R Dienelt (McLaren Vale) put together a strong display to overcome B Lewis (Kensington & Marryatville) / G Miller (Kensington & Marryatville) 16 shots to 12 to take the Men’s Pairs title.

At the latter stages of the week, Thursday through to Saturday, the Mixed Pairs event was held to cap off the Over 60’s championship.
The field of 76 Mixed Pairs in 20 Sections played at Lockleys, Toorak Burnside, Modbury & Salisbury Bowling Clubs.
Competing in the gold medal match at Salisbury Bowling Club was Ascot Park duo of B Quinlan and M Bertelsmeier against a formidable Kingscote duo of G and D Steinwedel, who came through in the end to take the mixed pairs title 16 shots to 12.
