2022/23 State Finals – Men’s and Women’s Fours Champions
Bowls SA’s first State Event has come to a stunning end at Modbury Bowling Club with two new Champion teams seeing their names engraved for the season.
Coming in HOT from three sectional games and four knockouts, Nathan Pedersen’s team of David Carter, Gary Thompson and Simon Dorr won their first game by 7 shots against Region 4’s Ashton, Karantonis, Reynolds and Morena, then knocking over Region 7’s Bartlett, Cooper, Maddern and Noble by 12 shots saw them in the final against a highly experienced side of Max Kleinig, Simon Geater-Johnson, Ashley Klose and Matthew Northcott. As you would expect with an accumulated 833 State Games played on the rink, the Men’s Final was close however Northcotts team saw them get away to a 6 shot lead with just one end to play. Pedersen’s team was able to notch up a four in that final end, however it was not enough to take the win, seeing Kleinig, Geater-Johnson, Klose and Northcott crowned the Men’s State Fours Champions for 2022/23.
At the women’s event on Sandy Wallace’s rink, lead by Sue Hutchinson, Sue Maddern and Pam Edmunds saw them win the morning game by 6 and the Semi Final by 4 against third place getters Hodshon, Stoddart, Cresswell and Rowley while Kylie Day’s rink of Delray White, Sherene Kimpton and Pauline Mansell take a 14 shot win in the morning game and a nail biting 2 shot win of their Semi Final seeing them in the Final against Sandy Wallace and team. In a close affair, in trying conditions, Region 8’s Kylie Day and team couldn’t hold off the well experienced side, crowning Sue Hutchinson, Sue Maddern, Pam Edmunds and Sandy Wallace the Women’s State Fours Champions for 2022/23.
